Steven M. Peterson, LCSW, has been a clinical social worker since 1986. He specializes in treating clients with co-existing mental health and substance abuse illnesses and works extensively with family members of substance abusers and clients adjusting to divorce. Steve has worked at inpatient and outpatient treatment centers in Oregon, Wisconsin, and California. Steve moved to Oregon in July of 2008 and started his own clinical practice. He returned to California in 2010 to start his Dublin practice. He has been in private practice for 20 years serving individuals, couples, families, and groups. He worked as an ad hoc professor at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee for 10 years and served as the lead research therapist at the Center for Addiction and Behavioral Health Research in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Steve believes strongly in evidence-based practice for the treatment of co-occurring disorders and has been involved in several large research projects combining medications for alcohol craving with psychosocial treatments. Prior to his move to Oregon, he started Gracer Behavioral Health Services in San Ramon, California where the opiate dependence program had an 80% success rate. In addition, he wrote several chapters in the recent publication, “A New Prescription for Addiction,” by Richard I. Gracer, M.D. Steve's empathic and solution-oriented approach has helped a great number of clients. His therapeutic orientation is informed by Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and the Family Systems approach. Steve believes that treatment for craving management is an important key to success with substance abuse clients. Steve enjoys football, skiing, and traveling with his two sons, Ian and Cole. |
